Corban Walker b. 1967
Corban Walker was born in Dublin, 1967 and later studied for a degree in sculpture at NCAD, 1987–92. Since then, he has mounted several solo exhibitions internationally and has realised important public art commissions worldwide. Walker’s work is part of numerous public and private collections including the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York and the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin. Walker represented Ireland at the 54th Venice International Art Biennale in 2011 and received the prestigious Pollock Krasner Award in 2015. Walker was also elected to Aosdána in 2011.
Walker is widely recognised for his installations, sculptures, and drawings that relate to perceptions of scale and architectural constructs. His local, cultural, and specific philosophies of scale are fundamental to how he defines and develops his work, creating new means for viewers to interact and navigate their surroundings.
Walker’s latest public sculpture, Bushy, was unveiled in 2022 in Dublin’s Bushy Park as part of the Sculpture Dublin initiative. Since then, he had two major exhibitions: As Far As I Can See at the Crawford Gallery, Cork and Sankey | Walker (with Catherine Sankey) at The Dock in Carrick on Shannon; plus the launch of his book 'As Far As I Can See' , published in conjunction with Oonagh Young in 2023.
Walker will present his first solo exhibition with Solomon Fine Art in Sept/October 2023.
