Manar Mervat Al Shouha

Overview

Manar Mervat Al Shouha is a contemporary Syrian painter based in Dublin. Her practice includes figurative painting, where expressive line work are central to her approach creating dynamic compositions. Using mixed media including oil, acrylic, charcoal, her work explores human subjects in fluid, layered environments, where she blends bold colours with spontaneous, gestural lines to evoke a sense of vitality and movement. Raised in Damascus, Syria, she earned a degree in Fine Art Painting from Damascus University in 2016. Alongside her artistic practice, she worked as a teaching assistant at the Arab International University, Syria.

Manar Mervat Al Shouha has exhibited her work in Ireland and internationally, including Syria, Lebanon and Dubai. Recent exhibitions include, Converging Contours, Claremorris Gallery, Mayo (2024); RHA 194th Annual Exhibition, RHA Gallery, Dublin (2024); Hennessy Craig Exhibition, RHA Gallery, Dublin (2024); Cashel Arts Festival curated by Catherine Marshall, Tipperary (2023). She has received multiple recognitions, including being shortlisted twice for the prestigious Hennessy Craig Award (2023, 2024). She is the recipient of the De Vere’s Art Award and Contemporary Irish Art Society Award, RHA (2023) and an Arts Council Agility Award (2023). She was artist-in-residence at Common Ground, Inchicore, Dublin (2022–2025). Manar’s work is in the collection of the Highlanes Gallery, Drogheda and private collections in Damascus, Dubai, Canada, Dublin, and New York.
