Solomon Fine Art is delighted to announce an exhibition of uplifting, lock-down inspired watercolours by artist John Short. These vibrant works on paper will be available to view on-line from Friday 24 April.
Since March 29th John Short has been using his daily 2km permitted walk to make a visual record of his neighbourhood under 'lock-down'. Luckily for Short, his house and studio lie in the picturesque and historic town of Dalkey Co. Dublin, known for its many medieval castles, grand Victorian architecture and superb coastal scenery overlooking both Dublin and Killiney Bays.
Short has been documenting the various landmarks around the town using both sketchbook drawings done 'en plein air' and photography, catching the beautiful bright Spring light at a particular moment. He then returns to his garden studio to produce the finished paintings in watercolour.
For the past three weeks Short has been posting his daily paintings online via Facebook, Instagram and the Dalkey online community forum. Local and international interest in these works has been so overwhelming that the artist has now decided to frame and exhibit the work so that Dalkey residents can enjoy them whilst lock-down continues. Jamie Gill of Gill's Opticians on St Patrick's Road, Dalkey has generously agreed to hang a selection of works in his windows on a rotational basis, so that viewers can see something new each time they pass through the town centre.
The original watercolours are priced from €1600 (inc frame). In order to make his work more affordable, Short has also produced smaller limited-edition giclée prints of seven of the paintings, priced at €250 each (unframed). John was scheduled to have a solo exhibition here at Solomon Gallery in Dublin city centre in June 2020, but due to the COVID-19 art gallery closures, we have had to postpone the opening until July/August - please join our mailing list (or email us at info@solomonfineart.ie) if you would like to receive exhibition details and an opening night invitation in due course.
