Solomon Fine Art is delighted to present a much-anticipated solo exhibition of recent paintings, sketchbook drawings and sculptural works by artist John Short. This vibrant exhibition includes Short’s renowned watercolour studies of popular Irish bathing spots and landmarks alongside a collection of his delightful 3D figures of sea-swimmers and wildlife. Sketched bathers from Galway’s Salthill to Dublin’s Forty Foot are accompanied by their humorous 3D counterparts, while a flock of cheeky starlings are captured perfectly on paper and in sculptural form.
Short is largely inspired by interactive groups and their behaviour; be they people, birds or animals. He contributes to the feeling of spontaneity and immediacy by carefully considering his composition and often taking an unusual or unexpected view of his subject. Having travelled extensively in Australia, China and throughout Ireland, his observational drawings and sketchbook studies form the basis of the work for this exhibition. Short has been producing unique 3D renditions of his drawings for some time, utilising salvaged sheet metals and copper - recycled from hot water cylinder boilers – which are cut, folded and painted in his unmistakable style.
