As we reach the end of an almost back to normal year, gallery and auction house programming is back in full swing and two must-see exhibitions in Dublin include an outstanding collection of recent works by the brilliant John Behan at the Solomon Gallery, Dublin.

The show, titled The Way It Is: Ukrainian & Other Sculpture, was opened by President Michael D Higgins and includes new works in bronze where the sculptor continues to explore themes of movement and emigration. The gallery describes this new body of work as tackling scenes and imagery which depict the plight of present-day immigrants and refugees with a focus on the current war in Ukraine. Also presented are newly created versions of the artist’s well-known bulls, Famine Ships and Oarboats.

The exhibition includes over 20 expressive works crafted in white, brown, green patina and polished bronze which show the artist’s brilliance in creating expressive and captivating pieces.

Behan’s works are included in the magnificent National Famine Memorial in Murrisk, Co Mayo, the Flight of the Earls in Rathmullan, Co Donegal, the monumental Arrival: A New Dawn ship outside the UN Headquarters, New York and Wings of the World at Shenzhen Airport in China.
