Irish Examiner: April brings Irish Art to Paris

words by Des O'Sullivan

At a key time of year in a city busily preparing for the Olympic Games this is a huge boost for Irish art.

Sotheby’s third annual Irish art sale in the French capital goes on display at their central location on Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré from April 26 until April 30.

Work by Roderic O’Conor, William Leech, Louis le Brocquy, Sir John Lavery, Gerard Dillon, FE McWilliam, Melissa O’Donnell, Rowan Gillespie, Orla de Brí, Gareth Reid (Sky’s Portrait artist of the Decade) and a group of artworks from the estate of Patrick Scott including a Louis le Brocquy will be on show.

At a key time of year in a city busily preparing for the Olympic Games this is a huge boost for Irish art.

At sales in 2022 and 2023 there was bidding from the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, France, Austria, and other European countries. This writer is of the firm opinion that Irish art deserves to be more widely known around the world and this sort of auction is just the tonic it needs.

This year the auction is on May 2.
