Perhaps the power of sculptures like these, is that they combine an intense physicality (something else that urban man has lost) with the potency of their connection to the landscape, both real and metaphorical, that surrounds the mythic stories. If we are losing our connection to, in the artist’s words, ‘things that have relevance’ – how many times have you described something as ‘soulless’ over the past decade or so? – then perhaps art, and in this case, sculpture, provides us with ‘soul’ in abundance - Brian McAvera, art critic & writer
Solomon Fine Art is delighted to host 'Hunter / Hunted' - a solo exhibition of new bronze sculpture by celebrated Irish artist Anthony Scott. Known for his stylised bronze animals and figures, Scott’s focus for this exhibition looks to themes of the hunter and the hunted, prey and predator, love and revenge, whilst drawing upon Celtic mythology and literature.
Born in rural Fermanagh, Anthony Scott attended university in Belfast and completed an MA in Cardiff in 1993. In HUNTER/HUNTED Scott combines his skill in depicting the animal and human form and his interest in ancient Irish stories of shapeshifting. The exhibition includes striking human figures depicting hunters, warriors and kings and demonstrates the artist’s interest in similar mythologies of other cultures.
Anthony Scott is a member of the Royal Ulster Academy, has been a regular annual participant at the Royal Hibernian Academy and has exhibited extensively in Ireland, the UK and at numerous international art fairs. In 2011, the late Queen Elizabeth II unveiled a new sculpture entitled ‘See the Stars’ by Anthony Scott at the Irish National Stud in Kildare during her State visit to Ireland.
His work is included in the public collections of the Arts Council of Northern Ireland, the Barbican Centre, London, the Crafts Council of Ireland, the US Ambassador’s Residence, AIB Bank, Kelly’s Hotel Rosslare and in numerous important private collections.
The show runs until 4pm on Saturday 22 October 2022.
